Mini Athletics (South East London)
Would you like to be part of an exciting children sports coaching business? Mini Athletics is the first of its kind. First and foremost, it is so much fun!
Through 3 progressive classes, children from 2.5 - 7 yrs old go on a fantastic journey in athletics. Currently we are looking to recruit for the position of Lead Coach for weekday and Saturday classes. Candidates do not have to commit to the full timetable but can choose hours that work for them. Venues will be in the SE London area (Forest Hill, Penge, Dulwich Village, Peckham Rye). Please note - this is NOT a summer only job but requires up to 6 month commitment.

Best suited to:
People looking for a rewarding, fun, part-time and active job. Would suit parents looking for school-hours work (Our weekday am classes start at 09:45 and finish at midday) Or people looking to gain experience in either teaching or working with young children.
Family: 1 son (3 yrs old)
How often do you work?
I work on Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings
How does the job fit around your family life?
It’s perfect as I get to choose the hours that fit around my son’s childcare. I was able to choose which classes I wanted to take on so choose those in the week when my son is at nursery. I also cover on Saturday mornings when required which gives me a bit of “me time”!
How much time do you commit?
I teach 4 hours a week. When I first started, I taught more classes and did some initial training as well
Where do you carry out your work?
I work at 2 different venues- Dulwich and Peckham Rye. I travel there by car but a lot of coaches use public transport.
Do you need a car?
I use my car to get to the classes but you could get there on public transport as all the kit is stored at the venues.
Do you get support/training?
Yes-loads! Alexie provides lots of 1:1 training and learning on the job to make sure your are fully prepared and feel confident coaching in the classes. I have learnt loads of new skills – from how to talk effectively with 2 year olds to how to command a room of 14 5 year olds! All of these skills could be transferred to delivering presentations, interviewing, communicating with your own children.
Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
Absolutely – it’s a really fun and rewarding job working with young children seeing them develop each week. It has also helped me to lose some weight and get fitter myself. I have learnt lots of new skills. I never thought I would be a children’s sports coach as hadn’t done anything like this before but with support and training from Alexie and with experience, I have become a really good coach and I love it!!
Are there any downsides to the role?
The classes are really well designed so that even if you aren’t feeling full of pep one day, once you get teaching and see how much the kids enjoy it, you can’t help but get energised!
