Location: Guildford / Surrey

Family: Husband – Chris & daughter - Effie

How often do you work?
Since coming off of maternity leave I am working 3.5 days a week and this involved both admin/office based work and teaching childrens dance classes.

How does the job fit around your family life?
Being self employed means that I can choose and move around my hours, this is wonderful as I not only balance my family and work time but it is also really handy for when life doesn’t go to plan, eg – when childcare falls through.

How much time do you commit?
On a full working day I commit to work from 9-5 the days I am not working I am often on call in case of emergencies and when the work loads is great I occasionally work a bit in the evening when Effie is asleep.

Where do you carry out your work?
My office is based at my home but my teaching is spread across Guildford and surrounding areas.

Do you need a car?
Yes, it is vital to have a car for my business. Not only from getting from school to school for teaching but also for distribution of advertising materials, class equipment etc

Do you get support/training?
As the founder of the business I do not but I do ensure all our staff (teaching and franchisees) get a packed full ,high level of initial training as well as on going support and training during their time with us.

Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
Boogie Pumps has been part of my life for 7 years now, so it holds a very special place in my heart. It’s a great opportunity to run a business around your families, choosing your hours and also setting up a business that your children themselves could one day become involved in is so special.

Do you advertise?
Yes, we predominantly advertise via social media and are lucky enough that the schools we work with allow us to use their school portals to advertise our classes and camps out to parents.

Are there any downsides to the role?
Being the business owner sometimes hard decisions have to be made and those land on your shoulders. You just have to do what you feel is best for you and the business.
