MagiKats workshops are held outside of school hours. All other aspects of your business are totally flexible, designed to fit around your own family and commitments. MagiKats can be done part-time or can develop over time to a full time, flexible commitment.
You use our system to provide English and maths tuition to small groups of children from pre-school to GCSE in your local area. The UK tutoring market is worth £6.5 billion per year and in 2014, 2.8 million children received additional tuition. A MagiKats Principal with just 60 of these children could earn around £52,000 profit per annum.

How often do you work?
I usually work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These are the days Leo goes to nursery. Some Wednesdays I do other things (like cleaning!), and catch up with work at other times instead. Most days I check emails and respond if I can.
How does the job fit around your family life?
I have a really good work/ family life balance. The flexibility to work when I want is great, and the only times I am tied to are the workshops, two afternoons a week. As Leo gets older, and starts pre-school and then school, I know I will be able to adjust my working times to fit around him, and should be able to start working more hours to grow the business more.
How much time do you commit?
I work 20-25 hours a week. Some weeks are busier than others, but if I don’t get everything done whilst Leo is at nursery, or if something else takes priority during that time then I spend a couple of hours in the evenings working.
Where do you carry out your work?
All my business admin and work preparation is done at home. My workshops are held at a local venue, which is only half a mile from my home.
Do you need a car?
Yes, I need a car as I need to transport work and workshop materials to my venue for the twice weekly sessions.
Do you get support/training?
Yes, I had a full week of training, followed by close support in the first few months. The support is always available when I need it, but I also have the freedom to run my business on my own without having to report in to anyone.
Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
MagiKats gives you a real sense of achievement, of doing something you love, and of helping students reach their goals, which is soon reflected in parent testimonials. Do you advertise?
Most of my advertising is done locally on social media and on several online listings and websites. I have an advert in a local magazine, and have also done leaflet drops in my area, and had a stall at some local events.
Are there any downsides to the role?
The growth of the business can be a little unpredictable. Sometimes I get new enquiries when I am least expecting it, and at other times there are fewer new students than I have been anticipating. It is important financially that you don’t rely on the income during the first year.
