Mum's view

Name: Sarah Jones

Location: Abergavenny, South Wales

Family: Hubby, 2 lovely daughters and soon a puppy...!

How often do you work?
While my little ones are at nursery and school mainly. Then just one or two evenings a week and once on a Saturday morning. It's proper flexi and I'm in charge of my schedule and make it work around my family and life. I'd say I usually do around 20-25hrs per week, but I'm always telling everyone about what I do because I love it so much!

How does the job fit around your family life?
It fits in well. I teach Pregnancy Yoga & Mothers Yoga a couple of evenings a week while my husband's handling bedtime and a Pregnancy Yoga class on a Saturday morning. I teach a couple of Postnatal Mum & Baby Yoga classes in the week during school hours and I've recently added in the WiggleBums classes for pre-schoolers and in schools. I'm excited because there is scope to grow as I grow.

How much time do you commit?
Around 3 days a week I'd say, but flexi over the whole week. Sometimes I do a bit more, sometimes a bit less.

Where do you carry out your work?
I hire a local community centre and I am now working in schools as well. I know some of the other teachers hire local yoga studios or church halls. Any space that is bright and big enough is fine.

Do you need a car?
I walk to my community centre and I drive to the schools as I bring kit for the WiggleBums classes. A car wouldn't be essential if you find a space with kit in already or if they have a storage cupboard for you to leave some things there. But generally if you are going to teach in a few different places and you need to bring yoga mats with you, you will probably need a car.

Do you get support/training?
Yes, masses of support. The training was amazing. Really eye-opening and inspirational. Clare and the team are all experts and ready to share their knowledge. We also receive on-going support with checking if venues or class times are right and help with tips to build the business. We have monthly teachers meet ups online which is nice to connect in with everyone and a private group on Facebook.

Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
YES!! It is perfect for mums - you can start out small and really build your business as your little ones grow and you get more time. It's amazing to watch your ladies come to classes in pregnancy and go on that journey with them as they become mothers. Now I've ladies who has been with me for a few years coming to classes with their children and then having babies again. It's really lovely.

Do you advertise?
Occasionally, Facebook advertising works well. I'm asked to write content for the local free papers which is great coverage. I find most clients find us via word of mouth - recommendations from other mums, midwives and doulas is consistent. The team at LushTums & WiggleBums also handle national coverage social media and provide regular updates and assets when I want to scale up my activities.

Are there any downsides to the role?
I absolutely love LushTums and WiggleBums, the content we teach is amazing and the business ethos. If you are thinking of doing something new and feel drawn to this, just speak with the team or get in touch with me and I can let you know all about my experience. Doing this has meant I was able to leave my full time job as a senior school teacher and create a flexi business I really love.
