Best suited to:
We are looking for bubbly, energetic, organised and enthusiastic people who are passionate about books and child development and want to have fun at work!
Family: Two grown up children and 3 grandchildren
How often do you work?
I work 2 days a week and occasional Saturdays. I take most of the school holidays off so that I can spend time with my grandchildren. The area I have is very large and I could work more days but I have chosen this as a semi retirement option!
How does the job fit around your family life?
Having been a primary school teacher for many years I decided to address my work-life balance as I approached retirement. I wanted more free time to look after my grandchildren and thought that Adventure Babies gave me all of the fun parts of teaching I loved and a lot more flexibility. I am able to choose the days and times that I work so that I still get to enjoy my school holidays.
How much time do you commit?
I work part-time as I look after my grandchildren 2 days a week. My working day starts at around 9 and I am finished by 2. I usually work on my laptop in the evenings or early mornings for around 30 minutes but I can do this anywhere… home, the garden, a café or even my phone while I am out and about. I guess it would suit parents as they could work when children were in bed.
Where do you carry out your work?
I teach my Adventure Babies classes in various different halls within my designated geographical area and then all other work can be completed wherever I can take my laptop. It really is extremely flexible.
Do you need a car?
Yes you do need a car as you get given so much equipment with the franchise! If you have a small car you would need to be able to out your seats down to transport what you need to classes.
Do you get support/training?
Yes ,the training at the start is excellent. I worked with Emma in Somerset for 4 days to get the admin side of things set up and be ready and prepared to deliver my first classes. The support before and following the training was amazing. Emma used to lead and develop teachers in primary schools so she was brilliant at supporting and coaching me.
Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
Yes I would fully recommend Adventure Babies as a franchise to other mums! It’s the only class of it’s type and it’s such a brilliant mix of sensory activities with the added benefit that it is delivered through storytelling with amazing high quality sensory equipment and lots of lovely handmade bespoke props. Everybody who comes along loves the classes.
Do you advertise?
I advertise my classes locally but Emma at Adventure Babies HQ organises all national advertising including updating our brilliant new website.
Are there any downsides to the role?
Sometimes I miss the buzz of a busy staffroom but actually find I'm much more efficient working on my own. This means that I have more free time than ever to do the things I enjoy. I really love chatting to all the parents and babies who attend my classes so I do find leading classes very sociable in that respect. I also network with similar business owners in my local area.
