Working for:
Little Owl Book Club

Little Owl Book Club is an award-winning, educational activity class that parents and children are loving in North London. We feature great picture books, teach fun phonics, and do cool art with our kids (age 2-4). We’re now expanding and we’re searching for brilliant Class Leaders to help us on our exciting journey.

This is a part-time, term-time, ‘during school hours’ job, so perfect for a parent who can commit for at least a year.

At the moment Little Owl operates in 4 venues (in N6, N8 and NW6) and is aiming to expand to other areas in London. Ideally you'd live in/near these postcodes, also N1, N2 and N10.

Our 50 minute classes have a maximum of 14 children (with their carers) and take place in hired venues. We focus on 2 new picture books each week and build a lively educational session around them. We have a fully planned (2 year cycle) curriculum. We use active games to introduce our 'letter of the week' (which is related to the book) and employ lots of ‘phase 1’ strategies to teach some of the ‘initial sounds’ of phonics. We also do some age-appropriate art and crafts designed for little hands and inspired by our books.

Your role would be to lead this class (sole charge), as well as set up/set down the equipment we use. There would be some preparation, eg, familiarising yourself with the books and lesson plan, preparing name stickers and getting some of the art elements ready.

The commitment and pay would be per class to include preparation, set-up, teaching and clear-up. Full training would be given and I’m aware this would vary according to your experience. Depending on your location and proximity to the venues you may need to have access to a car.

You need to genuinely love working with this age group, have a sunny, friendly approach and of course love reading and sharing our brilliant story books! There is a performance element to this class but I’m not specifically looking for those with a drama background!

Look forward to hearing from you!

From 1 or 2 mornings - up to you!

Pay rates (self-employed part-time position, gross figures): Single class taught: £45 (approx. 2 hr commitment) Double class taught: £65 (approx. 3 hr commitment) Training: £20 ph Marketing: £20 ph

Best suited to:
Perhaps you're an ex-teacher, nanny or classroom assistant? You'll need to have worked with this age group before and be confident enough to really perform our stories. You need to be friendly but professional with a 'sunny' disposition and be able to deal with parents/carers too. You'll also need good organisational skills. Full phonics training can be given but experience is a bonus.
