Name: Sarah Jones
Location: Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, South Wales
Family: Me, Husband Dad and 2 gorgeous daughters (age 5 and 20 months)
How often do you work?
I teach a couple of mornings a week, a couple of evenings and a Saturday morning. So I am always around for school runs and after school and love getting out to my classes in the evenings, so Dan can take over for a bit!! Also teaching always make me feel great so I come back energised and happy!
How does the job fit around your family life?
It's perfect really! I'm around for the girls - and only need to get childcare for a couple of hours once a week. The rest of my work fits in around family life.
How much time do you commit?
About 8-9 hours teachings classes per week. 8 hours admin, social media, meeting local people in my industry to network per week. 4-6 hours teaching birth prep courses (every month only).
Where do you carry out your work?
I teach all my classes in the local community centre - so over the last year or so I've created a real hub for mamas and mums to be. We all love the space now as its been a place of connection and beautiful experiences for all the ladies.
Do you need a car?
Yes, I do, as I live a bit out of town, but if you live near some great venues, you might not need it.
Do you get support/training?
Always! The teachers private Facebook group is a god-send - someones always on there to answer any questions that may come up. I never feel on my own. And I love the new research and inspirations that they share. Its really good.
Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
Yes! Other mums, even if you haven't done any yoga before, you've been pregnant, had a baby, have children, so you know! You know and understand the mums to be and new mums and have so much to offer to help them. As soon as you get your first birth story from a mum, and knowing your classes made that experience more positive, it's amazing!
Do you advertise?
Minimal - I spent about £100 last year around Christmas and Mother's Day in the local 'events' magazine. Most of my ladies come from midwife referrals and referrals from other mums and of course the LushTums website. I also do lots with social media to promote the classes and share stories and inspirations which works really well!
Are there any downsides to the role?
No! Genuinely, there are none! I love it!
