Franchise Opportunities

Working for:
Baby College

Baby College offers weekly parent and baby development classes to parents and their babies or young children. There are three different progressive age ranges starting at birth and continuing into the child’s third year.

Baby College classes include a range of activities that enhance every aspect of a child's development. These include games which help stimulate cognitive, language, physical, sensory and emotional development and puts the parent and baby relationship very much at the centre of the classes.  Baby College classes are unique in that they are as much for the parent as they are for the babies. Parents renew for several terms on average and return with second or third children.

The franchise package includes 44 weekly lesson plans for each of the three age groups (making 132 in total), a fully comprehensive training programme, a full kit to run your classes with and continuous support from head office and other Baby College franchisees.

No specific qualifications or experience are required as full training is provided but a passion for baby and child development is needed and it suits people who are sociable, outgoing and enjoy spending time with parents and children.

A desire to make the business a success and some personal drive is an advantage plus some organisational ability. Singing nursery rhymes is part of the job…

How often do you work?
3 days a week of teaching classes and approx. 1 day a week of admin- sales, marketing, reading, class preparation, reading, email correspondence etc

How does the job fit around your family life?
Very well, it enables me to do the school run in the mornings & afternoons and take my children to all their after-school activities. I have a lot of flexibility and autonomy with my time. I teach classes term-time only so I don't need to organise any child care during the school holidays or before and after school. This is fantastic as it means I can spend the school holidays with my children.

How much time do you commit?
Approx 18 - 20 hours per week this includes around 12 hours of teaching and setting up classes and about 6 - 8 hours of admin which includes things like marketing, sales, emailing, correspondence, lesson preparation for classes, research and reading, following up on enquiries and reading around the subject of baby development.

Where do you carry out your work?
My teaching work- delivering classes- takes place in rented community halls, church halls and yoga rooms in Witney and Chipping Norton, the rest of my admin work involved in running the business is done working from home.

Do you need a car?

Do you get support/training?
Yes, training was given before I launched classes and ongoing support is available from the parent company- Baby College UK from Bea Waterfield and Donna Twyford who are very supportive and helpful. We also have an excellent support network of closed Facebook groups and other communications between all teachers, franchisees, technical staff/third party providers. Support is excellent.

Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
If you want flexibility, control of your time, a good work/life balance and the ability to work hours that fit around a young family while also earning an income then this is the perfect job for you, if you are prepared to be patient and work hard at the beginning to establish your business. You also need a genuine interest in child development have a good manner with people and lots of energy.

Do you advertise?
Yes, in social media (Facebook) and in local shops, cafes, restaurants and community noticeboards etc. Occasionally in print publications and NCT magazine.

Are there any downsides to the role?
It takes a lot of hard work, motivation and resilience to set up your own business and make it a success. Even with support around you, you are essentially on your own and have to be able to work on your own. Establishing a successful business can take time and the first year requires faith in the franchise and the programme. If you haven’t run a business before there will be lots to learn.
