Description:

Housing for women is looking for female volunteers who have an interest in working with vulnerable children and young people living in a refuge. The purpose of this role is to help the children’s worker delivering, preparing and planning activities for our Wednesdays After-School and School Holidays Clubs for children living in the refuge. Activities include but are not limited to arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, etc. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Children’s Worker ensuring a safe & stimulating play environment for children attending the clubs
  • Assist with the planning, preparing & delivery of activities, which meet children’s individual developmental needs
  • Work face to face with the children
  • Help with cleaning duties at the end of sessions

Hours:
The After-School Club runs on Wednesdays afternoons from 1:00 until 6:00pm. The School Break Holidays club runs every day during half term and other school breaks (Volunteers are expected to attend the clubs. Dates and Times are to be confirmed). Given the nature of this role we expect the volunteer can commit to a minimum of 6 months.

Salary/Wage:
Voluntary role - We reimburse genuine out of pocket travel expenses (London Zones 1-6) to and from the place of work and up to £4 for lunch expenses. (Please note: expenses will be reimbursed against receipts only).

Best suited to:
Great for anyone who has experience of working with children. You will be given full training and an induction will be provided for the role. This role has opportunities for the volunteer to take on more responsibilities and develop and gain new skills. If relevant to your role Housing for Women will conduct a full DBS Check if you are appointed.
