Where flexible working works - Jobs for mums

Reach into your pocket.....

I want you to reach into your pocket pull something out, grab something from your your bag, or find something on your desk, don’t look too hard, it’s the first thing that comes to hand.

Hold that item in the air and sell it to me.  Is it the most expensive product ever?  Is it unique? Is it the most technologically advanced gadget ever?

Probably not, if like me you’ve grabbed a pen, a tissue, a drink, your glasses or piece of paper we’ll all be looking at the most uninspiring item.  But, we could sell it.

We have a unique selling point that we've not thought of, something nobody else has, something that’s such a one off nobody can afford it – us! Our personality.

Now, sell yourself.  What’s unique about you? What’s the thing that you’re most proud of? What have you achieved so far in life?  What do you want to achieve?

We can’t rely on product alone to make a sale, no matter what you offer, if it’s not backed up with enthusiasm and gusto it’s never going to appeal to anybody else.

Think of your most remembered school teacher, was it the one who made you copy line to  line from a text book, or was it the zany, slightly mad one, who made you all stand on the field pretending to be particles.  The most remembered lessons are those that were animated, loud, fun and maybe chaotic.

I’m not saying you have to have an element of madness when promoting a business or product (some may say it helps) but you do need to have an unshakable passion, spirit and zest that others can buy into.

Think of the Ice Bucket challenge that went viral in August 2014.  How many of us posted films of our extreme madness as we were soaked by an ever supportive friend or relative?  Did we really get involved because we wanted to chuck a bucket of ice cold water over our heads?  Nope.  It was the energy and spirit of the people doing the challenge that we bought into, now why wouldn’t we want to be a part of that?

The word enthusiasm comes from the Greek word entheos which means "inspired, possessed by a god," you don’t have to part of any religion to buy into the meaning of this, go be your own god, be empowered and  pass it on.  Now, try selling that item you took from you pocket!
