Direct Selling is the UK's largest provider of part time, independent earning opportunities with over 400,000 people involved in the industry in the UK, currently worth around £2 billion to the UK economy.
At a time when the industry is seeing a substantial rise in revenue being generated through party sales, we speak to the Direct Selling Association’s Director Lynda Mills about how mums can make the most of party plans…
Lynda, why is direct selling such a great option for Mums?
Direct Selling offers complete flexibility which means that parents can work around their family commitments. The added benefit of this is that they avoid extortionate childcare costs that they may otherwise face. In addition, it’s easy and cheap to get started – on average it’s around £100 for a business kit and sample products.
What are the revenue opportunities like for Mums?
It’s generally the case that you get back what you put in. Although time is always tight when you’re a parent, by investing time and energy in your direct selling business now you will inevitably reap the benefits in the long run.
How can Mums make the most of their parties?
It sounds simple but being passionate about what you’re selling is key so choose a company whose products you’re genuinely interested in and enjoy talking about. Make sure you are familiar with all the products beforehand and pre-empt any questions you might get asked by putting yourself in the shoes of your party - what would you want to know about the products if you were them? Also remember to follow up after the event to see if there are any similar opportunities or if any of the party would like to purchase anything else.
