William really liked the Transformers picture on the front and he was really excited about the Ez Freeze bottle, he couldn't wait to use it. There were simple instructions with the lunchbox but initially I couldn't work out what the extra zip was for until I found out that the front flap with the Transformer's picture was reversible. William liked this idea and we changed it every day! The bottle had a label around the neck giving good clear instructions. The lunchbox was a good size and easily fitted all William's lunch in it. The Ez Freeze bottle held 650ml of liquid which was plenty for William. The bottle fitted in the lunchbox and could be stood up. The lunchbox was easy to wipe clean and the Ez Freeze bottle could be washed in the dishwasher. This lunchbox was William's favourite and he loved the Ez Freeze bottle. He freezes the middle bit every night and he uses it at the weekend as well! It is a really good idea as if you use normal ice packs in a lunchbox they get wet when they defrost but with this bottle the ice pack is in the middle of the bottle so it keeps his lunch cool without getting everything wet. The bottle and lunch bag are excellent value and I would highly recommend buying them to other mums! |
This looks quite an exciting design for a lunchbox, obviously made more fun for a child that is into Transformers, but Joseph was really quite interested in it despite not being a fan. It has a zip of panel on the front with a different design on each side, which Joseph found fun to swap from one side to another. It could easily fit in a packed lunch, although it didn't have any area that would protect fruit, being a bag instead of a box. We really liked the bottle, it is a clever design, with an ice block that sits in the middle of it, and can be removed and put in the freezer. Both of these were easy for Joseph to use, and fairly easy to clean. I think the prices are fair for both of these items, especially the bottle, which I think would be very useful when the weather gets a bit warmer for keeping a drink cool, and I would recommend both items, but especially the bottle, I think it is very clever. I give the lunchbag 4 out of 5, and the bottle 5 out of 5! |
The lunchbag is fashionable roomy and practical with zip off front which is reversible. Easy to clean and could be used as a regular bag as well as a lunch bag. We really liked the Ez-Freeze bottle too - it did keeps drinks icy cold and is also excellent value for money. Overall both products are fantastic and fun to use and are well worth the money. I would be confident in recommending both of these items to friends. |
Concentrate Lunchbox This "Food for Thought" lunch box has been specially designed to hold fruit whilst protecting it from bruising or overheating. Children will be able to enjoy lunchbox fruit at its best which will in turn encourage them to reach their 5-a-day target. A unique, colour changing thermo-spot on the underside of the box helps achieve this by indicating when food has overheated. £10.00 | Available from John Lewis or please visit www.concentrate.org.uk |
Although I thought that it was a good idea having the spaces for fruit this lunchbox itself didn't appeal to William at all as it was too plain. There was a small sleeve around the lunchbox which detailed all the features and washing instructions. This was quite informative and even had a diagram showing you where to put items in the lunchbox. There was a small label with the cooler bag but no instructions as to whether the cooler bag could be washed. The lunchbox was a little small, William only has one slice of bread so we managed to fit his lunch in, but there wasn't much room especially with a carton of juice in. If an older child was using it I don't think it would be large enough. The pots are a good idea but you could only have one pot and one item of fruit as the pots only fit in the raised bits at the bottom. The lunchbox and pots were easy to clean as they just went in the dishwasher. I think the cooler bag would soon get dirty as William puts it down on the playground before they go into school. There were no washing instructions so I suspect it would need to be hand washed. William couldn't open the pots at all and I found them quite tricky to open. Overall I think it's too expensive and I don't think it would last very long. The fastener isn't very strong and I think it would eventually snap off. Also I don't think the cooler bag would stand up very well to being put on the playground everyday, I suspect the bottom will end up in holes. This lunchbox would be more suited to an adult as they wouldn't be as rough with it and could open and close and use the thermo-spot to its full effect. |
The Concentrate lunchbox is a very simple shape, in opaque white plastic and apart from apple and orange shaped clear windows into the box, has no further decoration to it. The coolerbag was a plain dark red colour which was not very exciting looking either, however it does have a white snowflake on the front which can be drawn on. The instructions were very simple, as the lunchbox is very straightforward, there is the main box, and two places in the box for round pieces of fruit, or you can put the two tubs that come with the box in these spaces, with nuts/grapes or something similar in. I did have some trouble in opening these boxes at times, and my 3 year old definitely struggled, so I avoided using these. It was easy to clean as it is a very simple design, and it is about the right size for a packed lunch, fitting 2 round pieces of fruit, sandwiches, a banana and a yogurt fairly easily. I think if this was for an adult, it is ideal, but as a kid's lunch box, it doesn't have much appeal, Joseph was not overly interested in the box, he wanted to use the pots but struggled with them. I think the price seems a little expensive for such a basic design, and I would probably not recommend it for a young child. |
I didn't think this was such a 'child-friendly' product. The packaging wasn't as eye-catching and didn't capture James's attention as much as the other items we tested. Although the pots were a good idea we found them hard to open. Overall I thought this lunchbox was too expensive for something that wasn't easy to use and didn't have such child friendly features. I did like the concept though and it could have been much more suited to an adult - I'd probably enjoy using the lunchbox more than the children. |

I thought this was a good novelty product and a good idea however it was a bit bulky for a lunchbox, even if it was clipped on to the handle or school bag. It was straightforward to use and came with a cardboard label at the top of the bag with full instructions. Small apples and tangerines easily fitted in the fruity face, but I thought it was too bulky for school. I used it more in Luke's bag as he likes apples and they tend to get bruised in his bag. It was easy to attach to his buggy if we were just going out for a walk. It didn't actually get dirty as it only had fruit in it but it would be easy to wipe clean or wash. Luke really liked it and the face on the front always made him laugh! It was really good value for money and I noticed on the packaging that there was a banana fruity face and I think this would be a really useful one to have, as they tend to bruise much more easily than an apple. I intend to buy one of those. |
I was more excited than Joseph on opening this one, as I had seen these on television before, and thought them an excellent idea. It is an inflatable sphere, which opens into two halves with a hollow in the middle for a piece of fruit. But Joseph was soon interested as I took it out of the packet and started to blow it up, as it started to take shape he could see the monster face on the front of it, and of the three we reviewed, this was his favourite. I think these are ideal, as they can be used inside a lunch bag or box and protect the fruit, although the size of it might be too big to use in some lunchboxes. But the layer of air around it means it can be used inside a normal bag and still protect the fruit inside. They also come in a banana shape and different designs than the monster face. Once it was blown up it was very easy for Joseph to use, it just clips open and clips back together again, I think it would be difficult for a child to blow it up properly, even someone a bit older, as there is a bit of a knack required to blow it up fully and then seal it before the air escapes, which if it does, the fruit inside is not as well protected. I think this is a great item, and I would say the price is reasonable, especially taking into consideration that a cut of their profits go to charities. I would definitely recommend this, as I think it would get a lot of use over time, and is a very clever way of making fruit fun for children. |
We liked the Fruity Faces holder; it was easy to use and had enough room to store an average sized piece of fruit. It was also easy to wipe clean and did protect fruit really well when in a bag. It might be too bulky to put in a lunchbox but would be ideal to put into a school bag alongside a lunchbox. The price is very reasonable. I'd recommend it as it does keep your fruit clean and stops it from becoming bruised. |
