Küster Jellybaby Changing Mat

The Küster changing mat is the first ever memory foam changing mat to be ergonomically shaped to fit your baby. And because baby is being changed constantly, day in, day out, the clever people at Küster have made it not only easy to wipe clean, the special high tech material is warm to the touch, soft and gentle for your baby and free from PVC. A much happier experience for baby's delicate skin, all round.

The changing mat comes with a 100% cotton and towelling, machine washable liner. A travel bag is also included. If you want the whole baby changing experience to be much more comfortable for your baby, there's now really only one choice.

5 stars

Really funky design which also was very functional the foam mat clung onto the base of my changing table so there was no chance it would slip or move. There were no instructions but a nice booklet with info about the product. It was really easy to use, and great shape. Alessio was happy to have nappy off time on the mat the sides hold the baby in so he couldn't roll out. The design is great but a special plus point is the surface - memory foam!, it was always pleasant to put the baby on the mat it never felt cold and the fabric layer retained heat so when Alessio had been on the mat for several minutes I could feel the heat of his body on the mat. The base was wipe clean and the fabric layer is machine washable, I have also washed it through and it came out great the quality of the materials used is really good. It felt very secure to use especially when you have a very wriggly baby like mine! The difference was significant between the standard changing mat we'd been using before which was functional and the Jellybaby mat - shape was soo much better and the way that the mat retained heat so no cold helps at 2am change. The price is reasonable for the product and I have already recommended the mat to other parents - several of my friends from aqua natal came round and I had a house full of new mums and babies all needing changing in succession, every mother agreed that they loved this mat and I've pointed them at the Kuster website to order.

4 stars

The design of this changing mat is eye catching and fun. Lovely body hugging shape and soft mat add to a really comfortable overall feel. Jemima was very happy when we used this mat. We really liked the softness of the mat as it cushioned Jemima when we had a lively nappy change. Plus we didn't get too worried if she was wriggling around as she seemed secure on it. One slight downside was it is not easy to wipe clean in that it is not a plastic finish so a bit different to most normal changing mats, also the mat also marks easily but overall this doesn't matter too much as it is more an aesthetic issue and has no impact on the functionality of the Jellybaby. It's it good value for money for the reasons outlined above, particularly baby hugging shape and soft material.

4 stars

I liked the design of this changing mat it was shaped like a jelly bean, and the funky pattern on the washable towel made it bright. It looked good as well as being practical. There were no instructions on the use of the changing mat, but there was lots of information on the packaging regarding its design. George liked lying on this mat, because of the memory foam and the towelling topper he didn't get hot and sweaty and they deep shape made it secure. The towelling is washable and the mat is easy to clean. Compared to the changing mat that I have been using, the Jellybaby is really good - our mat didn't have much padding, and was made of PVC. I would definitely recommend this mat to other parents, it is expensive but worth it, it is luxury for your baby while they are having their bums done.

Rabbitts Changing Mat

The Rabbitts Mat is the world's first Safety Harness Changing Mat. It has anti-roll technology to help prevent your baby falling during a nappy change. It's comfortable, quick and easy to use - and there's no safer way to change your baby's nappy.

In the UK of the 1,000,000 falls of infants in the home every year 230,000 occur at nappy changing time that is 60 per day or one per major Hospital and the majority are head injuries as the head of the infant is heavier. So the Rabbitts mat is a major step forward in infant safety.

3 stars

The mat was designed with practically in mind but that seemed to be at the expense of comfort and looks. It came with good instructions which were very clear. The safety harness was easy to use. Unfortunately Alessio wasn't keen on this mat, he didn't like to be strapped in and because nappy changing time is usually his free time without the nappy he totally rejected being strapped in. I do think the safety harness is a good idea though. The fabric was hard plastic and easy to clean. The mat was very safe .. if only my boy would have spent more than 1 minute without crying in it. Compared to the changing mat I'd been using before design-wise there was no comparison, the Rabbitt mat was electric yellow with primary green edging in hard plastic, my previous mat was a soft plastic soft padded child/nursery aesthetic friendly design. I think I would have preferred to have tested this mat in a more neutral colour from the range such as Classic Cream. I appreciate the mat is a good step forward for child safety but the aesthetics need improvement for me. I have spoken to a few of my friends and they all agreed the mat was a great idea, but that the look of it needed vast improvement to make it appealing. If the colours were nicer and the material softer this would have scored much higher with me.

5 stars

At first I was quite nervous about this mat as I did not want to tie Jemima down whilst changing her. However, after using the mat a few times I think it is brilliant. Jemima has stopped struggling when being changed and lies there quite happily. The little removable mat is good as is the surface material which is easy to clean. It came with very clear instructions and was easy and straightforward to use. At first Jemima cried when we used the Rabbitts mat as she tried to roll over and run off (normal behaviour) but she quickly realised that she was not going anywhere and now just lies there happily. It is now our changing mat of choice. I would definitely recommend this mat to other parents; the straps give it a clear competitive advantage in the world of changing mats. This was our favourite mat we tested, it is fantastic for children aged six months plus when they start to get more active and wriggly.

3 stars

I didn't like the design of this mat; it seemed bulky and not very pleasing on the eye. Although it was practical as it has a harness to keep your baby/child in place. This mat had very clear written as well as photo instructions, these helped to explain some of its many features . The special features were endless - I liked the idea of the harness, it had grooves for your legs and feet for comfort plus a catch area for little accidents to stop other clothes getting wet. It was very easy to clean and the towelling was washable. The main downside for us with the Rabbitts mat was George simply didn't like it and wasn't happy using it, and it was hard to lift his bottom off the mat to get the nappy on. I thought this mat was expensive although value for money and it gives the parent peace of mind that the child can not go anywhere. I would recommend it to other parents - especially those with older wriggly babies.

Mamas & Papas Musical Changing Mattress

Available in several designs which co-ordinate perfectly with the M&P collection, the musical changing mattress is comfortable for baby and practical for you. Key Features:

  • Wipe clean pvc cover
  • Smooth and baby friendly edges
  • Musical melody for baby activated by pressing the tab

1 stars

This changing mat was very like a standard mat. It had no real holding sides so my baby could have rolled out easily and when my boy decided to show us his impression of a fountain the mat didn't catch the wee so not only was the mat wet but so was the changing table and everything around it! It didn't come with instructions, but none really needed. The mat fit well on my changing table and it was standard size so should fit all changing tables. The mat had a musical button at the base end of the mat, unfortunately this was embroidered button and easily soiled by Alessio...which following quite a few attempts to clean has not been able to remove stains, I think the designers should have maybe placed the button at head end to avoid baby accidents! Also the music was very tinny so sounded like a broken toy but Alessio does like music /sounds so seemed quite happy for me to keep pressing the button. There were no anti-roll edges so for me the standard mat I had been using was designed much better as it held in the baby and also the spillages. I didn't think this mat was value for money - the novelty was the music button, but the quality of the music was poor and the button was in the wrong place.

2 stars

This was a pretty standard well made mat except for the musical piece which I did not place any value on at all as Jemima seemed completely disinterested. Maybe it works better for younger babies (less than six months). When Jemima decides that she is going to wriggle and run off then a bit of tinny music is not going to distract her. After a while the repetitive music started to get on my wick to be honest! On the plus side the mat had good cover material which was easy to clean. I wouldn't be rushing to recommend this mat to other parents as I think it is a standard mat and I didn't value the music feature, so would not pay a premium for it.

1 stars

I liked the design of this mat; it was the same as a standard changing mat but was musical. It didn't come with any instructions, but was easy to use, with a small push button to activate the music. George didn't like this mat, it was not very padded, and because of the sides seemed a bit small for him, plus the music was not very relaxing. I didn't feel the special musical feature was worth the price of what is actually a standard wipe-clean changing mat and for this reason (plus it was easier for George to roll off this mat) I wouldn't recommend it to other parents.

Overall Winner Küster Jellybaby Changing Mat

All the reviewers loved the Küster Jellybaby mat; it was praised for design, comfort and safety. The mums and dad liked the soft cover, deep sides and all felt their children were comfortable on this mat. Jason Jenner felt his child Jemima was most comfortable and safe using the Rabbitts mat, and as Jemima was our oldest tester this may suggest that the Rabbitts mat comes into its own once your child is very active (crawling/walking) and more likely to try and escape during a nappy change! The parents all felt the Mamas and Papas mat had an appealing design but were not impressed by the musical feature.

Tootsie Toolahs

This Thula Mama CD features 14 sublime 'a capella' songs from around the globe. It features an eclectic arrangement of songs from Africa, Deep American South and Israel. 'Thula Mama' is pronounced 'tula mama' and is named after a traditional South African lullaby, translated as 'hush, be quiet, don't cry'.

4 stars

The CD design was appealing and I would have reached for it if I saw it in a shop. Initially I found the singing strange but because its easy to join in with and I found it quite a good collection. Alessio seemed to like the rhythym and pitch of the tunes but I think he's so addicted to the U2 CD now he likes the sounds more! It wasn't really soothing but it's a good CD to have in the background during bath time. I thought it was great value for money and I would recommend Tootsie Tulas to other parents as they are easy to join in to.

5 stars

Tootsie Toolahs is the newest cd from mother and baby singing group Thula Mama. My first impressions of the cd was that the singing is lovely, joyful and harmonious - there are four voices singing a capella. My initial reservation with the cd was that I was not sure how best to use it. It is a mixture of tempos so it is a bit too lively for bedtime and because there is no background music I did not think my daughter would be interested as she could not bang her drum along to it. However Jemima absolutely loves the cd and sits in front of the stereo when it is on, bounces up and down and sort of sings along, so although I was not sure how to enjoy it, she instinctively knew.

Now I think the cd is wonderful and I thoroughly recommend it. The songs are memorable, melodic and beautifully sung, and you can sing along to it quite easily. We went on a two hour car journey and the cd calmed my daughter down at the beginning when she was a bit unsettled and then stayed on repeat the entire journey - and neither of us got bored. Definite value for money!

4 stars

This CD was bright yellow so would have caught my attention in a shop, although I don't think I would have picked it up as it only had the name on the front. I liked the music although I didn't know the words, there was a song card inside. George liked the music and Sophie liked to try to sing it to him. The music and signing really helped to soothe George if he was getting tired. Both my children liked this CD compared to others that I have played them - I think it's because you can join in. I think it is value for money, it helped to calm and soothe George and if as a parent you like singing then it is especially good!

Rockabye Baby - Lullaby renditions of U2

U2's cascading melodies and soundscapes are the perfect foundation for these heavenly lullabies. Using the glockenspiel, vibraphone and mellotron the instrumental versions of their well known songs will gently lull you baby to sleep. This CD contains 11 tracks (you can listen to a sample on the Lula Sapphire website).

5 stars

This CD would have definitely caught my eye in a shop, its packaged to aim at the adult with a twist of a teddy bear so instantly appealing and worth a look. The music is great and so is the reaction of people coming to visit - suddenly realizing its Sunday Bloody Sunday converted to lullaby tunes for the baby! The beat and twangs of the instruments really settled Alessio and he generally likes it for his afternoon nap. He liked his new CD and he likes to watch me hum away to it whilst he decides to fall alseep. He likes this more than others I've tried him on but I thinks that's because I hum away to it - appealing for adults who can't face another baa baa black sheep afternoon! It's good value for money and easily added to my CD collection, and I'm sure in years to come I will put it on in the background during dinner get togethers for the shear entertainment factor. I would recommend this to other parents who want a CD which their children will like, but they will also enjoy too.

3 stars

Rockabye Baby! Tranforms timeless rock songs into beautiful lullabies using glockenspiel, vibraphone, mellotrons and other instruments. I was trying to think of how I could describe what it sounds like and the best description I could think of is that listening to the cd is like sitting in a field of cow bells which suddenly play recognisable music, in my case U2 as I was sent Rockabye Baby! does U2. The first track is Sunday Bloody Sunday and it is quite funny to have the aggressive tone of the song neutered by the gentle instruments. I generally play the cd in the background when my daughter is playing and it is a nice cd to have around. My daughter seems to like it but does not sit in front of the cd player waiting for it to play, which is how I will test cds from now on. I think a U2 fan would really enjoy it and it is worth noting that there are a lot of other Rockabye Baby! cds available for example Coldplay, or the Ramones to the Pixies.

3 stars

This CD had a big picture of a bear on the front. It looked good and would have caught my eye if I was looking for a CD for George. I liked the music, it was tunes from U2, but done in the style of lullabies. Both Sophie and George liked this CD although they seemed to lose interest in it after a while. The music didn't really affect them a huge amount although they both listened to the CD and it made them relax a bit. They seemed to like this CD and it kept them more entertained then previous CD's I've played them. If you are a U2 fan then it's worth the money...if you aren't then it would be expensive.

Dreamland

Relax and unwind with this soothing Music CD. Turn down the lights and relax to the tranquil melodies of beautiful lullabies and soothing songs from Africa, Europe, Asia and North and South America. Putumayo World Music's upbeat and melodic international compilations are guaranteed to make you feel good!

3stars

The design of the cover of this CD is eye catching, and for any parent that loves to travel it instantly will be of interest. A true mixture of international lullabies - some are really peaceful and some just made me laugh but Alessio didn't seem to mind any of them, I thought the idea of having the international lullabies was great and found it interesting to listen to each language and how they interpret getting their children to sleep. The leaflet within the CD showed info on each song and a little about the singer which was interesting, there are also other titles from this company which I did find interesting so will probably look into their other collection. Alessio didn't react to any of the tunes except for the ones that entertained me, which he joined in with a giggle. This CD was the only one that he didn't seem to have any attachment to and it didn't lull him to sleep unfortunately. I thought the price was fine and I would recommend Dreamland to other parents as it is an interesting CD.

4 stars

This cd has a lovely picture on the front and definitely would have caught my eye in a shop. It also has a booklet in it which talks about the singers and the songs, ie translates the words and the origins of the songs. Music is beautiful, thoughtfully sourced and I love the descriptions of the songs, just a nice sentiment parents around the world using different music and stories to soothe their little ones. It is gentle and relaxing and soothing to have on in the background while Jemima plays with toys etc. However it does not engage her, but a soothing cd shouldn't should it? I could play this one at bedtime or a quiet time in the day as the songs are relaxing to listen too. It engages me though! Brilliant value for money as is the cheapest I've reviewed and it is something that I will play often and am really pleased to have a copy of it. I will buy it in the future for a present when a friend has a baby as it is just a beautiful cd to own. It has nice information for adults and soothing for babies.

4 stars

The look of this CD looks very appealing and I would have picked it up in a shop. The cover is dark blue but very eye catching. The music was really nice; it had words as well as instrumentals, which was great. Again though I didn't know the words and unlike the Thula Mama there was no song card. Both Sophie and George seemed to like this. It soothed George and relaxed Sophie. The instrumentals were very soothing and the singing was very soft. So quite a relaxing CD to listen to. I think this is very good value for money as the amount of songs and different types was really good. I would definitely recommend this to other parents as it has both instrumentals and singing, both my children seemed to take more notice of this one and it kept their attention.

Overall Winner Tootsie Toolahs

Our reviewers loved the soothing, yet uplifting tones of Tootsie Toolahs and it was a big hit with the babies and children! Great for singing along to the mums liked the word sheet and eye-catching design too. Rockabye Baby was praised for its ingenious, unusual and fun idea of turning adult music into baby lullabies. With a varied range the key difference here was whether or not our testers were U2 fans. Dreamland offered a lovely selection of music our testers felt, reflecting an international feel - again soothing and relaxing for babies and children.
