I'coo Plasma & C-Care Plus Car Seat

The I'coo Plasma is a buggy designed to keep one step ahead of the times. The modern aluminium chassis and luxurious fabrics with fleur de leys motive, give the Plasma a very up market feel. Features reversible seat unit which enables baby to travel both forward and rear facing. Adjustable footrest, softfix brakes, 5-point-padded harness and central suspension system give baby a smooth and comfortable ride over different types of terrain. Other handy features are the removable frontbar with washable fabric cover and the large shopping basket. Converts to a travel system by adding the I'coo Plasma C-Care Plus car seat which is a stylish and versatile first stage car seat suitable from birth to 13 kg. Both items suitable from birth.

The instructions weren't fantastic - very brief and not particularly descriptive. Luckily, the pushchair itself was very easy to work out without them. The car seat was very easy to fit into the car - being a standard across lap and around the back. It felt very secure indeed once the seatbelt was pulled tight. It took several goes to work out how it fitted on to the pushchair frame as you have to use separate adaptors which are easy to lose! The car seat had a hood which fixed on with poppers. However, it didn't actually seem very functional, as just kept slipping back down behind the seat. This system is a lie flat pushchair rather than pram. Because Robin is still small, and I like the snugness of a pram still, this seemed as though it was too big for him. I adjusted the harness to its smallest setting, but it was still too big for him and flopped about. I liked the fact that the system means you can have your baby facing you. I think it would be great for a bigger baby, for summer use, but wasn't too keen on it for Robin at the moment. Robin seemed happy in the car seat, although I couldn't get the head padding quite right for him, and it annoyed me that the harness shoulder pads came off whenever I took him out of the seat! The system was very manoeuvrable (in either mode). I did have some problems with kerbs though - it seemed I had to put an awful lot of weight on the handle to lift it up. It has an adjustable handle which has the best action of any pushchair system I have encountered. This would make it ideal for anyone who is very tall. The underneath basket was also great, being easily accessible and big. The system was really easy to fold up and a plus is that in folded mode, the seat sits on top of the base and they are very flat and compact so easily fitted in the boot either lying flat or in their sides. I do think this system is value for money, considering it does a lot of the things a similar system does at half the price! I'd recommend it to other parents who wouldn't mind leaving baby in the car seat on the system while it was still small as I think the chair is too big for a young baby. I'd also recommend it for it's easy folding, two way facing seat and adjustable handle.

5 stars

This travel system was very easy to use. I like the fact that it comes in two separate parts, easy to lift into car! The instructions where ok but sometimes a little confusing! The car seat is very easy to put on to the pram. But the only thing is that you can't keep the attachments on the car seat as they fall off. Lois looked very happy and comfortable in the I'coo and she had a few long naps in it, the only downside is that the straps didn't go quite as tight as I would have liked and were a little bit loose. It was nice and easy to push and very light. I didn't have trouble with the front wheels getting up pavements! It comes with a good size basket for changing bag or a bit of shopping easy to get too. The fold-down mechanism was easy although it needed two hands to fold it; however it folded down small and fitted in my car easily. The car seat was snug, but I worried there wasn't enough back support for a young baby. Together the pram and car seat made a really good compact travel system which offers good value for money; I would recommend the I'coo to other parents.

3 stars

The pram/pushchair was easy to use although the instructions were very brief and had no diagrams or photos. I liked the way the pushchair frame unfolded very easily but as it came in two parts it was slightly more fiddly to put together. The car seat was easy to fit into the car and onto the pram, although you do need to remember to take the two adapters out with you to fix the seat to the pushchair - this could be easy to forget. The pushchair looked quite comfortable but the harness was too big even in its smallest setting so Oscar wasn't held very securely. In the pram mode Oscar looked reasonably comfy but as the seat doesn't lie completely flat and does not have raised sides all round I wouldn't put him in there to sleep unless I was actually out (the other models pram function was much more comfortable and secure and I put Oscar in there for his day time naps even if we were not out and about). The handle height was excellent and had a good extension. As the pushchair comes in two parts it was also not too heavy. I found the wheel motion a bit jerky going round corners and it was quite hard to tip the pushchair to go up kerbs. The I'coo was easy to fold up and it fitted fine into the boot of my car. It would have been difficult to take on public transport due to the fact that it came in two parts. I would only really use the Icoo as a pushchair and not as pram so in that respect for me it was not as useful as the other two models, however, it is reasonable value as pushchair. I wouldn't recommend it as a travel system to other parents, but as a pushchair I would.

This system came with very clear instructions for both pram/pushchair system and the car seat. This car seat came with a base to fit into the car. Once the base was fitted (which was very easy), it meant that you could just pop the car seat on and off, and only need to pull the seatbelt around the back. This did make things slightly quicker, but unless you've got the release catch depressed properly, you tend to try and lift the car seat and the base out with it! It also sits very nicely onto the pushchair. The Pliko is easy to convert into a pram, and didn't have any extra liner - the pushchair fabric unzipped to turn almost inside out to make the pram. It was very cosy, and Robin looked very happy in it. I very quickly was able to convert the pushchair into the pram, and pram back to pushchair in about 3 minutes. The car seat was nice, padded and secure and I was very happy about Robin being it, but there is one major drawback - it is so heavy. He's only 12lbs at the moment, and it was putting major strain on my back lifting it in and out of the car, and onto the pushchair. There was a nice sized basket underneath. The system was easy to fold, but you couldn't stand it upright, and didn't completely "click" together on the frame making it nice and compact - it was more difficult to get into the boot of the car because of this. The system and the car seat come separate - I wouldn't recommend the car seat because of the weight and it is pricey. However, I really liked the conversion into pram from pushchair - nice and easy, and cosy for baby. I'd have no problem recommending the Pliko without the car seat, to friends.

3 stars

Overall I liked how easy this pushchair was to use, however I wasn't impressed with the car seat part of the travel system. It comes with a car seat base which seems a bit pointless as you still have to attach the car seat using a seat belt, you can't just clip it on to the base. It was also really heavy with my baby in it - I found it hard to lift! The pushchair was great though, it had lots of padding and Lois liked being in it. I liked the material and the overall design, the storage underneath was a good size but quite hard to get to. It was good to push without the car seat on and reasonably ok to use with the car seat on. Lois could only face me in it if we used it as a pram. The folding system was good and very easy to use. It fitted in to my car boot, but only side ways. Compared to the other two travel systems I tested this was my least favourite and I didn't think it was such good value for money as the other two. I would recommend the pushchair/pram on its own to use without the car seat rather than buying the combination as a travel system.

4 stars

The pram/pushchair was reasonably easy to use and the instructions were clear. I liked the smart design and styling. It was really good that pram converted from the pushchair without the need for additional parts. I found the car seat quite fiddly to fit into the car both with and without the base unit and it was also quite heavy. I actually found it easier not to use the base unit as I had to refix the seat belt to it each time anyway. The seat belt did not lie flat against the clip at the back of the car seat which I found quite worrying. Oscar seemed happy and secure in the car seat though - even if his shoulders looked a bit squashed underneath the headrest. He slept quite happily in the pram, but I had to put a blanket on the base of it as it felt quite hard - more padding for a baby would have been good. The Pliko was easy to push and the wheel motion was very good, when the car seat was attached it was still easy to push although a bit heavier. The weight/handle height was a bit short for my husband but was good for me. There was a good sized basket underneath. The folding down mechanism was fine, although I couldn't have taken it on the bus due to its weight - I couldn't carry it and Oscar! Overall the Pliko is good value for money and I would recommend it to others.

3D Pram System & Ventura Plus car seat

The 3D is a complete pram/pushchair system - a stylish and comfortable pram, that converts effortlessly into a pushchair, that can be used as a travel system with the Ventura Plus car seat, that all folds up very neatly at the end of the day.

Firstly, it's a pram that gives you the perfect lie-flat position for your baby. It's also rear-facing, so you maintain eye contact with your baby. Secondly, a few clicks and its unique folding system transforms it into a pushchair that reclines flat, allowing your baby to sit up or snooze. Thirdly, with the addition of the Ventura Plus car seat, it converts into a travel system. It also features a cushioned head support, lockable swivel wheels, a lightweight frame and a design-registered pram liner that cocoons your baby safely inside.

The Ventura Plus car seat provides balanced comfort, support and protection for car journeys and then clicks conveniently on to the 3D chassis when you reach your destination. A clever harness system allows you to adjust the straps with only one hand, keeping your baby securely in place, whilst extra padding can be added or removed for increased support if needed. The Ventura Plus can also be used as either a rocking chair or a stationary low chair.

5 stars

The system was very easy to set up, came as a whole unit, already folded in the pushchair format. The instructions were pretty clear, and had pictures to guide you too. It was easy to switch between pram and pushchair. The car seat was a standard fitting with the seatbelt, so was easy to fit and remove. In pram mode, the liner is very snug, and even has a soft closing harness (I think I would quite happily have slept in it if I was small enough)! This is great for young, smaller babies, but would be a squeeze for a larger baby. Even though Robin is only 10 weeks old, I decided to try out the pushchair for a walk to our weekly mother and baby meeting, to give him a different view of the world. The seat lies totally flat if you want it to, but I used it semi reclined. He looked very small in it, but very happy - it's very padded and comfy, and with the cosy toes on, very warm! The rain cover goes over the whole thing, and underneath the cosy toes and your changing bag if you're hanging it on the handles, so no chance of anything getting wet! The car seat, even before I put him in it, looked very safe and again, cosy. The harness that comes up between the legs is very padded, and the shoulder straps have removable pads too. It comes with a little removable hood and its own little cosy toes. The system was easy to push - not too heavy for getting up and down kerbs. The handle height was fine. There is a small basket underneath, but putting anything in it wasn't particularly easy - I put the folded up raincover in it, but it took some shoving! This comes with a changing bag, so I tested that too. It's excellent - lots of different pockets and a changing mat, in the same material as the pram, so looks great. The system was very easy to fold up and it fitted in my car boot easily. I would definitely recommend this system to other parents - I really liked it. I can see it lasting a good few years without suffering too much either - it's very well made. It also comes with a CD of classical music for baby (which is very relaxing), and a lovely little book of quotes - both nice touches.

4 stars

The 3D was very straightforward to use and came with clear instructions. It is an easy to use travel system. Lois seemed secure and was happy in both the pram and car seat. I liked the dark colour of the material which looked smart and wouldn't show every day stains easily. It was good to push and the weight of it when it was put together as a travel system was fine. There was under-pram storage which was a good size but a little bit awkward to get to. The 3D has a good folding mechanism and fitted into the boot of my car fine. As a travel system the car seat and pram offer good value - you get a lot for your money and again I'd happily recommend it to other parents.

5 stars

The pram/pushchair was easy to use and the instructions were very clear with photographs against each instruction. The travel system came with a separate insert for the pram and separate cosy toes for the car seat, pram and pushchair which made the system very comfortable and cosy for Oscar although it was easy to forget to take all parts with you and the pram insert took up quite a lot of room in my boot. The rain cover fit over the whole entire pram/pushchair which made the system more waterproof but was inconvenient to open up/remove when going indoors. The hood zipped open to provide a sun canopy for the summer which I thought would come in handy. The pushchair came with a changing bag which was a good size and had lots of useful pockets including a couple of waterproof ones for holding dirty stuff. The car seat was easy to fit into the car and onto the pram and the instructions were very clear. Oscar looked very comfortable and secure in the pram and slept quite happily in there. The pram function had a separate insert which was nice and padded and also had a padded harness to hold him in place. Oscar seemed very happy and secure in the car seat. The detachable insert was really padded and made the seat much more comfortable and made the seat much more spacious for an older baby when removed. The pushchair and car seat were easy to wipe clean but the pram insert was made of white cotton which was not wipe-clean. The cover could easily be removed however and washed in the washing machine. The 3D was easy to push and the wheel motion was very good, also easy to push when the car seat was attached. The weight/handle height was a bit short for my husband but was good for me. It had a very smooth folding action overall, but it wasn't as easy with the pram insert and hood on. This travel system is excellent value for money and I would recommend it to other parents.

Overall Winner Silver Cross 3D Pram System & Ventura Plus car seat

Silver Cross came out top in the reviews - the mums loved both the pram and car seat praising comfort, ease of folding, compact size and the extras that came with it. Highly recommended to other parents, the reviewers felt the Silver Cross system was well made and good value for money. The I'coo system was a hit with mum Sarah who liked the unusual looks and the fact that it came in two parts making it easy to fold down. The other two reviewers felt the main drawback with the I'coo was that it didn't really convert to a completely fold-flat pram and their babies were too small to use it as a pushchair. The Mamas and Papas Pliko received high praise as a pram/pushchair combination and the reviewers liked the ease and speed of converting from pram to pushchair and the stylish design won points. The car seat lost the Pliko system top place however, as the mums all felt the Primo Viaggio was very heavy even with their young babies in.

5 stars

The packaging for this was nice; all the products came standing in a cardboard tray within a white mesh bag with a yellow ribbon tie. It didn't look like most other "standard" packaging which made a nice change. There were 7 products included in this kit. I loved the peppermint foot and leg lotion - it tingled on application and felt really fresh. As I was applying it before bedtime, it also left a lovely lingering minty smell in our bedroom, which was still evident on returning to the room after a 4am feed! The lipbalm again was minty, and felt really fresh on my lips. The royal jelly body lotion wasn't as moisturising as my regular product (I don't like body lotions for this reason), but used in conjunction with my regular product it did as it claimed and left a lovely shimmer on my skin. The milk bath powder smelled lovely, but I preferred the top to toe wash and shampoo for baby - in fact I'm still using on myself as well as Robin. The fact that it's 96% natural ingredients is a bonus (we try to be as organic as possible), and it left my hair really shiny! The buttermilk body lotion was really silky to apply, and absorbed well on Robin's skin after his bath, but I found the smell a little overpowering (very vanilla) - I smelled of it for the rest of the evening! It did grow on me after a while used in conjunction with the wash though. Considering the amount of products in the pack, and that they are almost totally natural, I think it's good value for money, and would buy it for a good friend who had a new baby (as £30 is still quite a lot for a present).

3 stars

I quite liked this kit. The packaging was ok, but didn't appeal to me greatly. Out of all the products in it I liked the foot cream the best. For Lois I thought the body wash was nicest and it left her skin soft and not dry. The scents were quite strong, but the products did what they were supposed to effectively. Although this kit wasn't my own personal favourite I would consider buying it for a friend who had a new baby as it does offer good value for money for the amount of products you get.

4 stars

I liked the design of the bottles/tubes but the pack itself was nothing special. The kit included 8 products and I was looking forward to trying out the body cream. I liked the leg and foot cream best for me and the buttermilk body lotion best for Oscar. The textures and smells were very appealing although the baby body lotion scent was a bit overpowering. The leg and foot cream was supposed to cool and revitalise your feet and legs and it definitely did that – after using it my feet felt all tingly and the peppermint oil smelt lovely. I think that the kit was reasonable value for money and I would buy it as a gift.

Natalia New Parent Survival Box

Cocoon yourself with your new baby and let this collection help get the whole family through the early days of new parenthood. Includes: new mother bath soak (100ml), new parent instant revitaliser (10ml pulse pointer), baby massage oil (50ml fliptop), baby bath (100ml), organic cotton flannel and baby massage instruction booklet.

4 stars

The packaging for this was plain, but I liked it as it was totally recyclable (being made from cardboard). It also included a little book on baby massage, which was a nice touch. There were 4 products (all totally organic) in the kit, and an organic cotton washcloth. I was looking forward to trying the revitaliser as I'd considered buying it whilst I was pregnant for when Robin was born. The revitaliser wasn't as strong smelling as I expected, and seemed to wear off fairly quickly so didn't quite have the effect I wanted, that had been described. The bath soak smelled absolutely gorgeous though - a shame you only get about 5 baths worth out of the bottle. The baby bubble bath didn't smell so nice, so I wasn't as keen on this one. The sunflower oil was for massage, as described in the little book. It smelled like sunflower seeds, and absorbed into Robin's skin very nicely to leave him soft and smooth. Although used many times, it still looks though it's never been used as the bottle is still nearly full. We now have "massage time" after bath time every night. I think that £27.50 for 4 products and a washcloth is at the very top end of my budget so I'd have to think carefully about buying this kit even though I did really like it.

3 stars

The packaging of this kit didn't appeal to me; I thought it was ok, but for me nothing special. It came with 4 products inside and I was looking forward to trying the baby wash most. I liked it when I used it and for myself the bath soak was really nice to use and smelt lovely. I thought that as a kit the price was quite high as the products where small and didn't last that long. I'm not sure if I would buy this kit for a friend as I think there are better value products available.

3 stars

The packaging was neat and simple and tied in with the organic theme of the products; all the packaging and bottles are also recyclable which is good. The kit included 4 products. I was excited about trying the baby massage with the oil and using the instructions provided. The revitaliser smelt really good but the scent only lasted for a few minutes. I liked the massage oil for Oscar. It came in a handy container and had a good texture. The baby body wash and mum's bath soak did not have much of a smell and I felt they were slightly drying on the skin. The baby body wash foamed up so much that Oscar nearly disappeared in the bubbles! The washes cleaned mine and Oscar's skin effectively but did not do much else. I felt that the kit was rather expensive for what you got and the products were not as pampering as I would have liked.

Mama Mio You're Amazing New Mama Kit

Finally an alternative to flowers and baby clothes! Mama Mio You're Amazing! Kit is our first pampering gift for the new mum and baby. It contains two Mama Mio treats including the Super-rich Body Cream to keep your dry post-pregnant skin hydrated, a Gravida Candle which will put you in the perfect state of relaxation and a perfect temperature snuggle cap for the little one. This cap is extra special because it is made by 37° - a new range of baby clothing that uses NASA temperature regulating fabric to keep the baby the perfect degree of warm.

3stars

The packaging for this is fantastic - bright and colourful, and I can see the slogans giving a bit of a boost to someone who was feeling a little down after giving birth. There were 3 products in the kit: a body lotion, a hat to regulate baby's head temperature to 37 degrees, and a candle. I'd had 2 professional Mama Mio treatments before I received this kit, and had tried to find the hat separately for the arrival of Robin, but had been unable to, so was pleased to have it! The only product I could use on myself was the "super moisturising" body lotion - I was keen to see if it was as hydrating as my regular product, but alas no. Yet, in conjunction with my regular product, my skin felt fantastic. I thought it a little odd though that it said it should be applied to hands, arms, legs and feet and nothing in the middle! I applied it everywhere anyway. Smelled lovely too, as did the candle. The candle burned very well and should last for ages. As mentioned, I'd wanted to buy one of the hats for when Robin was born but couldn't find them online. I'm glad I didn't as even now at 11 weeks (when he can regulate his own temperature) it's still too big for him! It's a great idea though and should be available in different sizes. Even though it looks great, and the products are great (and natural, very important), I can't say that I think its value for money and would struggle to spend this much on a friend who'd just had a baby.

3 stars

When I saw this kit I was very impressed, I really liked the bold colours on the box. It was a bit disappointing that the kit with the highest price tag only contained 3 products and I could only really try one of them properly - the body cream. It did smell nice when I used it and worked fine - not amazingly well, but fine. The hat was cute. I like the concept of the '37 degrees' products and I'd never heard of them before. I wouldn't rush to buy this kit for a friend as it has a high price tag which n my opinion isn't really reflected in what it contains.

3 stars

The packaging looked really good, very bright and eye catching, although the box was much larger than it needed to be for the 3 items it contained. The amount of packaging was not very environmentally friendly. The kit included 2 products and a baby hat and I was excited about trying out the body cream. The candle smelt lovely and I loved the glass holder it came in. The textures of the body cream was rich and smooth and felt nice on my skin. Both the cream and the candle smelt really nice. The main problem with the kit was the price - I felt you didn't get a lot for your money.

Overall Winner Burts Bees Mother & Baby TLC Kit

The reviewers all chose the Burts Bees kit as their favourite. They felt it offered the best value for money and loved the array of products it included for both mum and baby. All three said they would buy this kit for a friend with a new baby. The Natalia New Parent Survival box was praised for its eco-friendly packaging and the parents loved the massage oil for their babies, but the size of products let it down in terms of being value for money. Mama Mio's packaging was the favourite by far, and the mums liked the body cream, however it wasn't thought to be a good value kit. The testers loved the candle and body cream but wanted more for the price tag.
