3 stars

I personally don't like animal print designs, so I didn't particularly like this 'zebra' looking footmuff. There was a nice pocket on the front, but I didn’t see the point in having it. Very well made though and although it was all fleecy, it was very heavy which was good to keep little one warm. It felt very good quality and soft. No need for instructions and it was easy to fit and was a nice size. My son fell asleep straight away in it and seemed to be nice and snuggly in it. It was easy to get him into and out of with a nice sturdy zip with a good red tag to pull. It's good value for money and although I didn't like this design of fabric myself there are lots of others in the range and I'm sure I would have loved one of the other ones.

5 stars

This was by far the most appealing due to its fabulous design, which could be clearly seen through the packaging (apparently it comes in 35 designs) and mine was really funky. Just loved the name of this product too and the logo looked great on the packaging! You didn't need instructions, but the tag attached to the BuggySnuggle clearly stated what to do and what it could be used for. The material was soft velour, with the only criticism being it could have used just slightly more padding. The top zipped off completely, so the bottom could be used as a liner. It also included what was called a "teddy pocket" at the front, which we used for hats and gloves - ever so handy. It was easy to get on and I liked the cord ties which could be used to tie securely onto the buggy. Theo definitely looked the part when we went out, which made this my favourite. Not over priced either, so would definitely recommend to a friend.

4 stars

I liked the pattern of the fabric of this footmuff - it looked warm and cosy. It was straightforward to fit on to my pushchair with no problems. It was easy to get Ronan in and out of and he seemed very comfortable and happy in it. Good value for money.

Maclaren Universal Footmuff

This universal footmuff from Maclaren is designed to fit and complement all Maclaren buggies as well as other buggies with a 5-point safety harness. It will provide your baby with additional warmth and comfort in colder weather. It has a zip-off front panel for easy access to your baby while the rear panel remains as an additional seat liner.

5 stars

This footmuff was a lovely colour red, very vibrant and looked really warm. The fleece inside was very soft and it was plain, so it went well with my buggy. It didn't come with instructions and I did struggle to fit it to the pushchair at first. I did what I usually do and fitted it in a carpark just before I went shopping and I got frozen! Unfortunately, the slits that the straps go through were slightly too small on two of them so when I got home I had to cut the opening slightly inside the overstitch edge to make it fit. Once that was done, it was fine. Within 10 minutes, my son was fast asleep in it as it was so comfortable! He is going through a stage where he is kicking off his shoes so with the footmuff on, I knew he wouldn't lose a shoe which was an added benefit. The footmuff was very easy to zip up and it was extra snuggly because it had a couple of poppers to keep him tightly wrapped in it. Excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend it!

3 stars

The foot muff came in clear packaging, but the design was disappointing being in just one colour (in which 5 solid colours are the only choice). The Maclaren logo was stitched onto the front, which was the only detail. It had micro fibre material on the outside and fleece on the inside, which made it easier to wipe when Theo spilt his milk, though overall didn't feel as snuggly as the other two we tested. The footmuff had press studs at the top, which could be fastened to make Theo warmer and could be unzipped for the bottom to be used as a liner. This footmuff was definitely smaller than the other two I tested and I felt that it didn't quite fit the pushchair as well, in that Theo didn't seem as wrapped up. Still offered good value for money though.

4 stars

Again this was another really good footmuff - nice simple design and very warm looking. I liked the colour and it looked good on the buggy. It was straightforward to fit on to my pushchair and Ronan liked it (he didn't seem to not like any of the ones that we tested!). Good value for money.

Cozyosko reversible buggy bag

Designed in the Blue Mountains near Sydney since 1999, the vibrant and functional Cozyosko range is now available in the UK for the first time. Suitable for for baby up to 3 years+. The reversible buggy bag has two separate eye-catching motifs on both the inside and the outside. The Buggy bag is made of double layer machine washable polar fleece and has a standard 5 point safety harness fitting. Also suitable for most car seats, the Buggy bag can be removed with baby still inside so they stay warm and cosy. Access is easy with two zips, the top section can be removed completely to convert the bag into a liner in warmer weather.

4 stars

At first I didn't like the pattern because it had flowers on it - then I realised I could reverse the cover which had stars that was more suitable for a boy. The fleece seemed nice and soft. No need for instructions and was very easy to fit. I very much liked the hood bit because that went over the top of the seat to keep it in place better - it fitted the buggy really well. Both my children liked this footmuff. My daughter thought it was like a sleeping bag when it wasn't fitted to the buggy. Nice and soft and warm. Easy pulling zip and had no problems getting my son in or out. I thought it was good value for money and would recommend it.

4 stars

The buggy bag came in see through packaging, so you could clearly see the design of one side (they are designed in the Blue Mountains of Australia!). Being reversible, you had the option of 2 designs which made it really versatile. The one I tested was dark/light blue with reversed out stars and flowers - really striking. There were no specific instructions, but getting it on my pushchair was straight forward. The material was very soft, snuggly and warm and Theo seemed really comfortable and happy to be in it. It also doubled as a liner, again using the 2 designs. This was definitely my runner up. Value for money and definitely worth recommending to friends.

5 stars

This was my favourite of all the footmuffs. I loved the design and it looked so snug and warm. It was super easy to fit on the pushchair and Ronan loved being in it. Great value for money and I'd definitely recommend this to all my friends!

Overall Winner Cozyosko reversible buggy bag

One of our closest review results ever with only a point between the winner Cosyosko reversible buggy bag and the two runners up. The mums thought all the footmuffs offered warm, cosy cover for their little ones and really the choice was down to personal taste in terms of design of fabric.

Indoor Play Houses

John Lewis Pirate Fabric Playhouse

mum & working chopice

Every little pirate needs a place to stow their treasure and consult the maps where X marks the spot. This fun fabric playhouse can be used indoors or out thanks to the waterproof backed floor mat. Includes storage bag. Suitable for age 3+.

4 stars

This playhouse came with good clear instructions and was very easy to put together. The attention to detail was great and the pirate design captured both of the children's attention. It was a good size and felt very good quality. It really inspired creative play and I liked the fact that it was aimed at both boys and girls (although my daughter does love pink!). I think the children loved it because like the Mothercare house it was more like a proper 'playhouse'. I think it's good value for money because it's very good quality.

4 stars

This play tent came in a lovely bright turquoise carry bag, and was neatly stored with brackets and poles in their own canvas bags. There were clear instructions on how to assemble, which were fastened within the carry bag, though I did need my husband to help me set up, which was slightly frustrating for the kids. The quality of the playhouse was superb and it also looked expensive, so was something stylish for me to leave set up in the house. The detail was great and my children had lots of fun pretending they were pirates, due to the lovely detail including a pop up style tent door. In terms of quality, this was my favourite, though a tad on the expensive side, it felt like it would last a long time. There was a waterproof base, so you could play with it outside on the grass, making it very versatile. The interior was spacious and Will and Theo were constantly in and out. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

5 stars

Myself and the children all loved the unisex design of the pirate house - both Roisin and Ronan's eyes lit up when they saw it! It's made from really lovely quality fabric and was simple and straightforward to put up. They have both played in it a lot and we've left it set-up in Ronan's room and it's slowly becoming home to his teddies as he plays! Both of the children have enjoyed lots of creative play using this house and I think they will play with it even more in the future, so although expensive it's great value for money. I'd definitely recommend to a friend.

Garden Games Wigwam

The Garden Games Wigwam is a wonderful hideout for children, both easy to assemble and beautifully designed. Consists of 6 wooden poles and printed cotton wigwam. Easily dismantled when not in use, poles come apart to half length, so wigwam takes very little space. 1.4 metres tall. Suitable for indoor and oudoor play.

1 stars

The wigwam arrived well packed in a plain box. It did come with instructions, but they were not very helpful. No proper picture to follow and it was confusing. I ended up going on the website to find a proper picture of how it is supposed to look. The string came out of the canvas at the top and had to be re-threaded. Maybe the manufacturers could do with putting a little knot on the ends? One of the poles was bowed and kept on falling out when trying to put it up. It would have been easier if it had been designed like tent poles where they are attached and just clip together. I had two other mums with their children at my house when it arrived and we all struggled to get it put up. I couldn't believe how hard a wigwam could be to put up! It is only a canvas tent with poles! We realised it wasn't too good on laminate floor as it kept on sliding so we took it into the living room on carpet. Slightly better, but still difficult – waited until husband got home to help. It did look good once it was up, but can't be put up on your own, which is no good when your children are demanding to play in their wigwam! However, the kids absolutely loved it. Both of them played in there for hours, but not much room for me to join them inside. The kids thought it was exciting to take other toys in there and kept running in and out. Although the kids thought it was great, I hated putting it up every time as it never really sat properly. My other friend thought it looked unsafe and that it looked like it was just about to fall down at any moment, even though it didn't - not the playhouse for me.

3 stars

This playhouse came in very simple plain cardboard packaging, which didn't get the children excited before we opened it. The wigwam itself consisted of one big canvas tent and poles/brackets for assembly, but there was no storage bag which would have been really helpful. Clear instructions were included and I managed to assemble this with the help of my daughter. The tent opened and closed with a velcro fastening and did look good when erected (would look great in the garden too!). Apart from the Red Indian motifs on the outside, like a sun, deer and rabbit there wasn't much to it, so was lacking in interior design. This let it down on the creativity side but I did love the look of it. I wonder if this could have been made in a pop up version, which would have been much more versatile. Compared to the other playhouses, I did feel it was value for money though so would recommend to a friend.

4 stars

Fairly simple and straightforward to put up - although this was the only house that my daughter didn't help to put up as it needed longer arms to get the poles standing up. It looked fantastic but did keep slipping on our wooden floor so might be better suited to a household with carpets - but we can't wait to use it in the garden next Spring. The children loved playing in it and we had a picnic inside! I thought the Wigwam offered a really unusual play-space and was great value for money. The only downside for me was the fact that it moved about on our floors.

Mothercare Sheriff's House & Girl's Playhouse. Features:

  • Fun fabric playhouse perfect for any child's room
  • Not suitable for outdoor use
  • 100% cotton
Nikki Simpson's boys tested the Sheriff's House and our other two testing families tested the Girl's Playhouse

5stars

This playhouse came in a good plastic bag and it showed a nice picture on the front to show you what it looks like – very exciting. The instructions were very clear and concise. Very easy to follow. It was brilliant to put together because everything was colour coded and straightforward. Very easy for one person to assemble. Even the cover was easy to put over the frame as it was extremely good quality material and very well stitched. It looked gorgeous when it was up. Nice size inside for all three of us to sit in and play and ok for indoor or outdoor use. Everything about it looked lovely. The gingham curtains looked pretty and felt nice and soft. Hours were spent inside the house until they realized they could easily turn the house upside down and then pull the poles apart and create long sticks. I was only cooking the tea! But it didn't take long to put it back together and my daughter wanted to go to bed in there. I think the children loved it because it was more like a proper 'playhouse' and they took their playfood and kitchen bits in there. Although a bit over my normal budget I think it's good value for money because it's very good quality.

2 stars

This came in a clear plastic zip up bag but unfortunately ours couldn't be used for storage as it had already started coming apart when it arrived. It included poles/brackets and was quite straight forward to put up, but still took time. The playhouse was made of good quality material, but lacked design and features which made it a bit boring for the children. Although it had Saloon on the top of the tent, it looked more like an English country cottage - the cowboy theme didn't really seem to have been carried through the design. There was nothing to stimulate the children into thinking they were cowboys. My children did sit in it to hide, but there wasn't much creative play. Because of this, it made it my least favourite and I didn't feel it was value for money compared to the other two.

5 stars

Again this was a fabulous playhouse! It had gorgeous design and details and was very simple to put together. Roisin enjoyed helping. We set it up in her bedroom and she and her brother enjoyed taking various toys, books, dolls & teddies inside it - we even had lunch in there as well! Even though this is quite an expensive playhouse I did think it offered great value for money and the children loved it. I think we'll have hours of playing fun in the future too and as it is so pretty it's something we'll just keep up in Roisin's room.

Overall Winner John Lewis Pirate Fabric Playhouse

Again another extremely close contest between the Pirate playhouse and the Mothercare playhouses. The two families that tested the girl's pink playhouse loved it, but unfortunately the Sheriff's house wasn't so popular which brought down the overall score slightly. The Bouncy Happy People Wigwam was praised for being a different exciting design but Sue Pinnick found it really hard to put up and gave it a very low score on this basis - definitely a play space to put up with another adult present.
