How often do you work?
I work many hours right now as I grow Hartbeeps however, I can take time out to see my children's plays or take part in a school outing.
When I started running my first few groups, I did around 10 hours a week.
How does the job fit around your family life?
The job is part of our family. The children play with the props, they enthuse over the music and songs and my 14 year old now works (well in her own way..) with me in the office. I am my own boss and I love it so much...I have spent years leaving my children in childcare whilst I commuted to offices and spent weekends away on business trips. It just didn’t feel right. I love my job!
How much time do you commit?
I commit lots of time, 9 to 9 some days, but that’s rare now and it’s because I am behind the scenes doing the jack of all trades things. For a front line session leader running their own business they work from 10 to 30 hours per week, school hours and term time. They do have the option of running 1 hour weekend parties, but it’s entirely up to them.
Where do you carry out your work?
I work locally; home based office and can even cycle to some of my venues, which are located in parks!! I pinch myself sometimes at how lucky I am.
I also drive a little further afield, but that’s my choice.
Do you need a car?
I need to a car and I would say it’s pretty essential to carry props to venues. However it’s not impossible to do this job without a car and some session leaders will get a roll along trolley and walk to their local venue. Some venues where we hold 16 weekly sessions will store our props.
Do you get support/training?
Well I support and train. But my team get instant phone call help. I will often call their answer phone and sing a song that they may be having a bit of trouble with. Email support and mentoring. Updated session plans, short video clips will also be coming too soon to our website for instant training. Master classes and remote learning packages also available.
Would you recommend this opportunity to other mums?
What really is magical about this job is the way you feel during and after a session. They say that singing makes you feel good, add laughter and the warmth that you feel when babies and children love you and love what you do, when you share in something new a baby or child has done for the first time with their parent, or supporting a new mum through a tearful moment. It’s like no other job!
