Secret 3: Are you in the Flow?
This is the third in a series, 5 Secrets of Growing your Business from the Kitchen Table, from our Mumpreneur guru, Antonia Chitty.
Do you ever get that feeling when something is going really well? When time passes and you make great progress, when you’re really in the zone? That feeling is called Flow. Identifying what gets your ‘flow’ going can be a key to business success. You create the best results when you are in ’flow’, so choose a business that suits your strengths and allows you to use them. You can also identify the aspects of your business that are a real struggle for you ... and that’s when it’s time to get some help and outsource: see last month’s article.
I’m a firm advocate for business planning: a great plan can help you be clear about where you want the business to go and how you want to get there. But my biggest breakthroughs have come when I’ve gone with the flow. I developed my PR business in response to a request from someone for help with a press release ... which was rapidly followed by more and more requests. I wrote my first book after two people suggested I should within a few weeks of each other, and got my first publishing contract the first time I sent off a proposal. It took persistence to follow through, complete tasks and create a successful business or finish the book, but all these breakthroughs, the start of some major achievements for me, happened surprisingly easily.
If you are researching a business idea or developing a business and it is a continual struggle without remission, just take a few days to sit back and see if you are really going in the right direction. And if parts of your business are going well, ask yourself what you should do differently with the parts that you struggle with: should you outsource or change the focus of the business? Work out how to tap into your personal and business flow and you will find success easier to achieve.
