Winner: babyballet
Creator and Managing Director Claire O’Connor, who is a mum of 4, spotted a gap in the market for babyballet and has worked tirelessly to develop an award-winning brand and franchise business, which has a huge fun factor and is based on the unique concept of cute, exciting and non-competitive pre-school dance classes.
There are 32 franchisees now operating successfully across the UK, all of whom are women and 26 out of the 32 business owners are mums. These statistics reflect that the babyballet franchise offering is particularly attractive to women who want to effectively combine running their own business with raising a family. In addition to the classes, the business has additional revenue streams including parties and a cute range of uniform and merchandise. A new franchise package with lower start up costs is currently being launched which will allow even more mums the opportunity to have their own babyballet business.

Lazy Daisy Birthing
Founded in 2004 by mum of 5 Julie, to address the needs of her own family life and work/life balance, Lazy Daisy and the Daisy Birthing programme is now one of the fastest growing active birth education facilities in the UK. We pride ourselves on helping our clients to experience confident, comfortable birthing however their journey play out on the day and also assisting them with their own work/life balance through the bonding/attachment techniques within our postnatal programme.
Having enjoyed 5 years and more than 1500 clients in Ipswich, Julie embarked on the process of accrediting her training programme and concept and now helps other mums passionate about birth, reinvent them selves and find a new career. This career is one which truly reaps rewards on every level - financially yes but also emotionally (there is nothing more rewarding than the birth story emails we receive); and who said just because you have a baby and need flexible working hours, that you shouldn’t still enjoy job satisfaction!
In terms of our teachers, our training is not only FEDANT approved but specifically designed to fit around family life in every sense. This really is the career where being pregnant or being a new mum helps you!
Razzamataz Theatre Schools
Razzamataz Theatre Schools is dedicated to providing the very best performing arts training to children aged 4-18 on a part-time basis. Our mission is to provide all the essential techniques in the performing arts, in a fun, modern way and in a youthful, enthusiastic environment. We believe performing arts should be accessible and affordable to everyone, creating a new generation of multi-skilled, fit and confident young people. Our core activity is our franchised part-time theatre schools with currently over 38 franchised schools. In addition we hold the contract for Stage Academies for TUI (First Choice and Thomson Holiday Group) and provide academies in 16 resorts across Europe.
In 2007 Razzamataz attracted an investment from Duncan Bannatyne in BBC TV Dragons’ Den and he is still a partner today.
In 2009 Razzamataz were voted in one of the Top 5 UK Theatre Schools for quality and affordability by The Stage and Television Today newspaper, and are in the top 10 entrepreneurs on the BBC Dragons Den website.
