Winner: Beckie Clifton Jo Jingles Norwich
I purchased my Jo Jingles franchise in 2007 as I strongly believe in the benefits of this musical programme. My son Aaron has been to classes since he was six months old and I was absolutely amazed at how swiftly he learnt to clap and beat in time with the music and how advanced some of his other skills were, such as speech and coordination.
Before I took over the franchise, I was a peripatetic woodwind teacher, travelling for 2 hours a day and getting home late. The opportunity of working for myself and the thought of children being able to experience the benefits of music at a really early age seemed exactly what I needed to do. As a single mum, I love the fact I can be there for my son, to take him to school and pick him up, and even attend school events – something I could never have done in my previous job.
I am also able to give other people the opportunity to have a flexible job that fits round their children. I am very lucky and have two fantastic members of staff.
I have a BMus(Hons) degree in music and have always loved working and playing with children and to me music is and should always be FUN! This IS my ideal job.

Karen Bisp Sing and Sign Oxfordshire
I have been teaching Sing and sign since September 2004. I am a qualified nurse and continue to work at our local community hospital. We began signing with my daughter at about 10months old and were amazed at how quickly she developed her signs. By the time she was 14 months old she had a vocabulary of 40 signs and her spoken words weren’t far behind. We have since signed with our other 2 children and have enjoyed the experience thoroughly. In class we teach signs for daily activities such as eat, drink, nappy change, bath time and also for animals, vehicles, colours, all things that babies love.
We teach all our signs through songs so that the signs are easy to learn and classes enjoyable to attend. We use instruments, pictures and props to keep babies interested during the sessions. Sing and Sign classes run throughout Oxfordshire, at 9 different venues with almost 200 attendees. In order to offer this many classes I have 6 teachers.
We all have small children and need to juggle pre school hours so our time is very limited. We all need to teach close to home at a time that is convenient. My teachers have all signed with their own children, a number of them have children with special needs so signing is of huge value to all of us. Personal experiences are a great additional value to the classes that we offer and we are all passionate about sharing the experience of baby signing with others.
Sharon Moore Dinky Dancers Berkshire & North Hampshire
I brought the Dinky Dancers franchise to the Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire region in July 2007.
I started dancing at the age of 3 and progressed into dancing professionally in my early 20’s. I then worked as a key worker at a local pre-school, which I absolutely loved. I contacted Dinky Dancers with the intention of combining 2 of my biggest passions, these being dancing and working with children.
I then became the first franchisee for Dinky Dancers, therefore overcoming various challenges as they occurred and didn’t have the assistance of having an already established brand with my area. I have loved the challenge of bringing the brand awareness to my region and feel very proud of what has now been achieved.
I now run 9 very successful community classes, 7 children centre classes and 2 day nursery classes per week, with the assistance of my 5 class leaders who enable me to do this. I feel that Dinky Dancers has worked perfectly alongside my family life, I am a mum of 2, Chloe 7 and Bobby 2.
Dinky Dancers has given me the flexibility of being able to have my 2nd child and to be there for my children in their very important early years. I love everything about Dinky Dancers and am very excited about our new class developments, Boogaloo Boogie (5-7yrs) and Motion Commotion (7-11yrs). It will be great to give all ages, both girls and boys the opportunity to express themselves through a variety of dance and movement.
