Funky organic kids clothes, certified organic by the Soil Association.
How often do you work?
I hold around 2 or 3 parties a month and take a stall at a local event as and when they come up.
How does the job fit around your family life?
It's really flexible - I can take a stall at a toddler coffee morning during the day and then run a party on another night when the girls are in bed.
How much time do you commit?
About 8 - 12 hours a month.
Where do you carry out your work?
I started by holding the parties at my own house and then started holding them at other people's homes too. Party Hostesses earn discounts from 10-40% off the clothing so Arabella Miller really appeals to shopaholic yummy mummys!
I've now branched out to selling at local school events and craft fayres - I'm looking at organic markets too as the clothes would fit in really well there.
How much space do you need for your kit/stock?
I hold the kit in just two plastic boxes in my hall.
Do you need a car?
I think it would depend on how much kit you had - after buying the starter packs you can add to them an item at a time. I have the kid's kit which is just 13 t-shirts, so they're easy to transport.
Do you advertise?
I got initial interest from friends and by distributing some Arabella Miller flyers at my older daughter's school. Once I started running regular parties I recruited my hostesses from the parties themselves. The clothes themselves are a fantastic ad (and I get 50% off), people often stop me and ask me where I got my daughter's t-shirt from!
How did you hear about the job?
I knew someone in Derbyshire who was selling the clothes just within her circle of friends and saw how easy she found it. My youngest wears the baby clothes so I already knew about the quality so I can answer any questions about washing! After my first party I earned £150 just for a couple of hours work and I really enjoyed the social side too - nothing better than a couple of hours shopping with friends in the comfort of your own home!
Do you get support/training?
Yes, I had an initial 30 minute phone training session and there's the option of a face to face chat each month plus the usual support such as newsletters, handbooks etc. If I have any questions I can always ring the Office and speak to someone. There's also a training day held every six months.
Are there any downsides to the role?
You have to be quite self motivated as you go at your own pace and are responsible for your own work and bringing in bookings. I'd also add that this kind of job suits "people persons" who enjoy meeting new people too.
Would you recommend this opportunity to other Mums?
Yes - of course! - it's a great pressure free job which can easily fit in with your lifestyle. The social side makes it fun too, and I've made new friends too. If, like me, you try and do your bit for the environment, you’ll enjoy selling Arabella Miller clothes as they're kind to people as well as the planet! (They also look really cool too!)
