Sales and Design roles available.
What type of work do you do? I source leads for 'Small Steps' magazines and then telephone the businesses in order to secure magazine advertising. Much of the advertising comes from similar businesses in each area, all related to parents with young families. The Starter Pack gives information on where to find leads and I have a telephone contact who is there to give regular advise on where to find and secure the advertising.
How often do you work?
Normally 3 days per week but it is flexible.
How does the job fit around your family life?
The job fits perfectly around the needs of my family as I don't work in the school holidays and I am here when the children are sick.
How much time do you commit?
Approx 12 hours per week but again it is flexible.
Where do you carry out your work?
I have a home office but a quiet corner with a telephone and computer would be fine.
Do you need any specialist equipment?
A computer with broadband and a telephone line.
Do you need a car?
No
Do you advertise?
No
Do you get support/training?
When you sign up you receive a Starter Pack which has a lot of basic, useful information. Then before you start and while you are working on your magazine, Jean, who is in charge of sales, will help and advise all she can. If you take on the design you really do need to be experienced in basic advertising make-up and lay-outs and then you have on-going support from the Editor/Designer.
Are there any downsides to the role?
You need to be able to bounce back and keep going when people say no. Also it can get a little lonely when you are working on your own. However, you are in touch regularly with Jean who is always there for a chat when you need her
Would you recommend this opportunity to other Mums?
Yes, there is enormous satisfaction when you receive the Small Steps that you have produced and most agents want to do more than one area once they have got the bug! It is also a good way to combine family commitments with work. You are expected to work to a deadline and need time during the day for 'phone calls but there are no strict hours and you can work around school holidays.
