What is your background?

European Business Analyst for Revlon before starting own business (Women Into Trades) which employs female plumbers, electricians etc.

How did you first hear about Tomboy Tools?

I was researching business opportunities for women on the internet and Tomboy Tools was one of the companies I found on a Google search.

Tomboy Tools comes from the US - how successful is the company there?

Tomboy Tools (US) grew 30% last year.

Is the company in every state in the US?

Yes

Do you have many Mums working as Consultants in America?

Yes - not sure of exact numbers but many mothers and grandmothers!

Were you working for the company in the US and have come over here to head up the UK or are you new to the company?

I am new to the company

Talk us through a normal party....Is it lots of fun?

The tool parties are definitely a lot of fun! The consultant introduces the tools, giving the woman chance to try them out for themselves. Consultants can offer tips if any of the women have specific DIY jobs that need doing. There's usually plenty of drinks and nibbles included in the evening which help to make the party run even more smoothly and comfortably!

Why do you think women enjoy the parties?

I've had really positive feedback from friends and acquaintances who have come along to 'practice' parties. They all say that it's so much nicer to find out about tools and DIY in a relaxed setting rather than going along to a DIY store which can be intimidating. Also we try to empower women to have a go at jobs that they may otherwise wait (and wait and wait!) for someone else to do.

Are you a dab hand at DIY?

I am pretty good and have learnt even more since embarking on this business!

What qualities are you going to be looking for in potential consultants?

Consultants should be enthusiastic, reliable and sociable. They don't need to be brilliant at DIY, it's the enthusiasm that counts.

What will the earning potential be for consultants?

Very difficult to say as we haven't launched yet and there are so many variables. Ask me again in a year!

What will the investment required be?

Consultants will pay £199 + VAT which includes a tool box and tools worth over £100. It should also be possible for consultants to make this money back within the first month or two.

Are you going to have a UK website?

Yes we have a website although it's just an introduction page at the minute - www.tomboytools.co.uk

How do interested Mums apply?

Either through the website or at our launch on 8th April.

The official launch of Tomboy Tools UK will be held at the Quality Hotel in Cardiff on Saturday 8th April from 1pm 'til 6pm.

The launch will provide attendees with an informal introduction to the tools and tool parties and you'll have a chance to try the tools for yourself. There will also be an opportunity for women to take part in 'New Consultant' training with members of the US team.

Refreshments will be provided and there is a free gift with every purchase. The afternoon will be a very relaxed 'drop-in' event!
